Separate a requested TONU amount from direct cost
TONU—truck ordered not used—can describe a requested or agreed amount when a booked movement is canceled under applicable terms. This calculator reports the entered amount as the claim total and subtracts entered direct expenses to show a simple net recovery view.
It does not invent a TONU rate or turn deadhead into an automatic charge. Money Desk preserves the agreed/requested amount and can retain factual trip context separately.
When this calculation is useful
- Reviewing the economics of a known requested or agreed TONU amount.
- Separating gross recovery from direct cost incurred around the cancellation.
- Preparing a factual record for a claim workflow.
Preserve the entered claim and calculate net recovery
- Agreed TONU amount
- The TONU amount supplied by the user from the relevant discussion or agreement.
- Direct expenses
- Direct cost used only to estimate what remains economically; it is not added to the claim.
Formula
Claim total = agreed amount; net recovery = agreed amount − direct expenses
The first result repeats the entered amount without deriving or validating entitlement. The second result is an internal economic comparison and can be negative when direct expenses exceed the requested amount.
Example: a $300 request with $85 of direct cost
Assume an entered TONU amount of $300 and $85 in modeled direct expenses.
- Claim total remains the entered $300.
- $300 − $85 = $215 net recovery.
Result: Claim total is $300; modeled net recovery is $215.
Decision use: Keep evidence and contract communications with the request. Do not add an unsupported amount merely because the calculator has a field.
Gross claim and economic recovery answer different questions
The claim amount concerns what is requested or agreed. Net recovery asks what remains after modeled direct cost. Neither result determines collectability or the contractual outcome.
Common mistakes
- Creating a TONU amount from an assumed industry standard.
- Calling all lost revenue a direct expense.
- Treating net recovery as the invoice amount.
Limits and assumptions
- Cancellation terms, notice, documentation, deadhead entitlement and collectability are not determined.
